The Conquered Ones
The Lord seeks to reign supremely in every life, but He can never truly reign as Lord in any life until He has conquered it.
The struggle varies from person to person as the flesh wars against the spirit, but for everyone who submits, the end result is the same: a conquered life.
A conquered life is one where the flesh—the self-life—has been completely brought into subjection to the spirit man, and the spirit is made alive and governed by the Word and Spirit of God.
One might naively assume that every Christian has been conquered by God in this way, but that is simply not true. Not all who profess Christianity are truly born again to begin with, and among those who are genuinely saved, not all have yielded to being conquered.
That is why the conquered ones are easily recognizable. First, they are very few; second, they often appear distinct and peculiar to the world around them.
Characteristics of the Conquered Ones
The conquered ones are those who love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength—they love Him with absolute gravity. And to these believers, loving God means obeying Him. They have laid down all resistance to His Word, His Spirit, and His ways.
They obey God with everything they have, to the absolute best of their knowledge. They do not compromise, and they do not take days off from their walk with God. They remain ever ready, willing, and open to grow in the knowledge and experience of God so they can love and obey Him even more perfectly.
Because you cannot obey what you do not know, they are diligent students of the Scriptures. They are deeply prayerful, cherishing quiet time with the Holy Spirit and vibrant fellowship with the brethren.
If they have a motto, it is this:
“That I may know Him…” (Philippians 3:10)
Their heart and soul continuously yearn for more of God. They can feed on His presence all day long. God is most important to them—far above anything and everything else in this life.
There is nothing in the world that excites or entices them, and there is nothing in them that excites or entices the world:
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Galatians 6:14)
They may be viewed as outcasts, but in truth, they were the first to cast off the world and everything it has to offer. They are vessels unto honor (2 Timothy 2:21). It does not matter if they are currently working as janitors or even facing temporal hardship—in the realm of the Spirit, they are generals, kings, kingmakers, and priests unto God.
They are heaven’s treasure and living carriers of God’s presence.
Are You a Conquered One?
Do you know any conquered ones? Are you a conquered one?
If you find yourself asking, “Is he or is he not?”—they probably are not. If you find yourself asking, “Am I or am I not?”—you probably are not. When a life is thoroughly conquered by God, the evidence is undeniable.
Some people desire to be conquered, but they are not fully ready yet. They remain distracted, still in love with self and the world, and unwilling to give their ALL and take up the cross daily. They continue to indulge the flesh, keeping self-will alive and loose. Jesus is not yet reigning supremely in their lives.
Tragically, some may never be conquered because, while they pretend to seek God, deep down they prefer the world.
A Call to Surrender
Jesus wants to reign supremely in your life, but you must willingly allow Him to conquer the natural man through His love, mercy, grace, truth, Word, and Spirit.
Will you let Him conquer you today?
I will.
Mercy and Truth to you.
